Wyre Council is looking for a committed Tree and Woodland Assistant to join our experienced and dedicated Public Realm team. This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver the council’s environmental and climate priorities and manage associated risks.

About the Role

As the Tree and Woodland Assistant, you will:

• Undertake detailed inspections of trees, woodlands, and public open spaces to identify risks and ensure public safety. These inspections are essential for managing council liabilities and maintaining resilient, healthy landscapes.
• Record findings accurately and prepare clear work programmes based on inspection outcomes.

• Assist with tree planting programmes, maintenance planning, and establishing new planting sites.
• Contribute to woodland and biodiversity management plans and support environmental grant applications.
• Work closely with colleagues, landowners, community groups, and schools to deliver environmental projects.
• Represent the service at meetings and support public consultation activities.
• Monitor contracted works to ensure standards are met.
• Maintain accurate records using digital tools and GIS systems.
• Uphold the highest standards of health and safety, ensuring effective risk assessments.

What We’re Looking For

• A strong interest in the environment, biodiversity, and climate change.
• Ability to identify tree species, recognise signs of ill health, and understand appropriate management actions.
• Excellent organisational and ICT skills, including experience with spreadsheets and digital data recording.
• Ability to work independently on site, but also collaboratively within a team.
• A technical arboricultural or equivalent environmental qualification is an essential requirement of the role
• Desirable skills include practical arboriculture qualifications, experience with GIS systems, and previous experience in environmental or arboricultural roles.
